How AI Detector analysis works: signals, coverage, and context
AI Detector is a browser tool for reviewing writing-pattern signals in supported Chinese and English text. It describes evidence available to the analysis; it does not observe authorship or produce a universal probability of who wrote a document.
1. Identify the language evidence
The detector first looks at the text that can be meaningfully analyzed. Chinese, English, and mixed-language passages can be routed separately when there is enough language evidence. A mixed document is not automatically treated as if every character belonged to one language.
This matters because language, terminology, punctuation, and sentence structure affect the signals. Keeping language-specific results visible is more honest than merging unlike measurements into one precise-looking number.
2. Analyze text segments, not an author
Supported text is examined in overlapping analysis segments. The result can include an overall AI-tendency signal, local passage mapping, text metrics, and the amount of text that produced usable evidence. The local map helps you ask which passages deserve review instead of treating a single score as a verdict.
A higher signal means the analyzed patterns are more associated with the tool’s reference data. It does not mean a fixed percentage of the document was written by AI, and it does not identify a person or a vendor.
3. Keep coverage and reliability visible
Not every input produces the same amount of evidence. Short passages, unsupported material, code-like text, formulas, unusual terminology, and heavily edited writing can reduce useful coverage. A result with limited coverage should be treated as limited, even when a number is available.
Read the coverage and reliability notes together with the signal. If the document is mixed-language, remember that the primary-language result and any secondary-language evidence may have different scopes.
4. Use the result as one review input
- Confirm the language, length, supported format, and effective coverage.
- Read highlighted passages in their surrounding context.
- Compare drafts, revision history, notes, citations, and source material.
- For consequential decisions, ask for human and subject-matter review.
The detector is designed to make review more informed. It is not designed to replace an institution’s policy, an editor, a teacher, or an investigator.
Supported input in the current product
You can paste text or import TXT, Markdown, DOCX, and text-based PDF files in the browser. Each check accepts up to 10,000 characters after extraction. Scanned PDFs without a text layer may not provide readable text for analysis.
